Vishwa Hindi Divas-2016

The High Commission of India in Nairobi in collaboration with Hindi Samiti of East Africa celebrated Vishwa Hindi Divas (World Hindi Day) on 9 January, 2016 (Saturday) at the Apa Pant Auditorium, High Commission of India complex, Highridge, Nairobi. Since 2006, the Government of India, through its Missions abroad has been celebrating the Vishwa Hindi Divas to further promote international interest in the Hindi language. Hindi is spoken by over 300 million people in India and in countries abroad with a strong Indian presence. It is considered the second most spoken language in the world.

In her welcome address, High Commissioner Ms. SuchitraDuraihighlighted the significance of Vishwa Hindi Divas and the role Indians residing abroad can play in promotion of Hindi language in different parts of the world. The gathering was also addressed by Mr. Abhishek Rana, Secretary, HindiSamiti of East Africa.

Children of the officials of the High Commission of India and Hindi Samiti of East Africa presented poems and skits in Hindi which were well appreciated by the audience. The High Commission of India in Nairobi plans to start Hindi language learning classes shortly.
