India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Mr. M J Akbar visited Kenya to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the President of Kenya H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta on 28 November 2017 in Nairobi.

India’s Minister of State for External Affairs Mr. M J Akbar visited Kenya to attend the swearing-in ceremony of the President of Kenya H.E. Mr. Uhuru Kenyatta on 28 November 2017 in Nairobi.

During the visit, MoS Akbar called on President Kenyatta at State House to hand over a letter of congratulations from Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.  President Kenyatta warmly recalled his two visits to India, in October 2015 and in January 2017, and the State visit of Prime Minister Modi to Kenya in July 2016 and important decisions taken during these visits.  MoS Akbar briefed the Kenyan President on the progress made in implementation of these decisions including the Lines of Credit extended by Government of India to Kenya in the fields of textiles, power transmission, SME development and agricultural mechanization as well as gifting of Bhabatron-II to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi. He also thanked the Government of Kenya for its steadfast support to India’s candidature in elections to various inter-governmental bodies.

MoS Akbar also conveyed congratulations to the Deputy President of Kenya H.E Mr. William Ruto and to the Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Amb. Amina Mohammed.

An interaction with Indian community representatives was also arranged during the visit. In his address, MoS Akbar outlined several latest initiatives of the Government of India in the area of socio-economic development.  More than 100 persons of Indian origin and Indian nationals attended the function.

India is Kenya’s leading trade and investment partner.  In recent years, the long-standing friendly relations between India and Kenya have evolved into a comprehensive bilateral partnership.
