Pravasi Bharatiya Divas-2016

The High Commission of India in Nairobi celebrated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2016 on 9 January, 2016 (Saturday) at the Apa Pant Auditorium, High Commission of India complex, Highridge, Nairobi. The event was attended by over 150 person of Indian origin, prominent Indian nationals and friends of India.>

In her opening address, High Commissioner Ms. Suchitra Durai, highlighted the important role played by persons of Indian origin. A presentation on Indian Diaspora in East Africa was made by Mr. Sharad Rao, Chairman, Judges & Magistrates Vetting Board of Kenya. Mr. R. Chandramouli, First Secretary, gave a brief presentation on the Flagship Programmes of the Government of India viz. Make in India, Digital India, Swatch Bharat Abhiyan, Skill India, Smart Cities, etc. A presentation on “Making India the preferred destination for holistic health care” was made by representatives of various Indian hospitals in Kenya. A panel discussion on the role of Diaspora Community Organisations was also held with expert comments from Ambassador (Retd.) R. Swaminathan. Counsellor and Head of Consular Affairs, Mr. G. Narayanaswamy made a presentation on delivery of Consular Services and OCI Scheme. The programme concluded with a live broadcast of Hon’ble External Affairs Minister’s message on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations, the High Commission of India, Nairobi held a Consular Camp for the benefit of the Persons of Indian Origin at Shri Rama Mandir, Nairobi from 1400-1700 hrs on the same day.
